There are way too many myths in the ‘start an online business’ scene, and it’s time we debunk the most popular ones so that more people can start doing something to improve their life and do better work today.
Here’s why you might think you can’t become a business owner anytime soon, or ever, and why that’s not true:
1.You Don’t Have Experience.
The Internet has made it possible for anyone to start something on their own and learn on the go. That means you can know nothing about a field, but still start doing your research today, learn from the best, watch videos and read guides and books, start writing about it and expressing opinion, learn a digital skill or two through an online course, and soon you can even teach beginners how to do it.
2. Age Matters.
Think you’re too young to start your own business? Look at the tens of thousands of students who are doing something on the side, be it freelancing, creating and selling their first product, or building a website and making it popular.
Most of the startup founders that changed the tech industry also started at an early age. In fact, that’s an advantage as you’re full of energy, are curious to learn, have the time to make as many mistakes as you wish and learn from them, and the only limitations are the ones you set to yourself.
Thinking you’re too old to work for yourself? That shouldn’t be a barrier. Having worked a regular job for a long time means you’ve got special knowledge and enough experience to start doing it on your own or just teach others online how to get better at it. Be it to create a resource and build an audience, or to offer private lessons on Skype or learn how to create your first online course and start selling and promoting it.
3. You Don’t Have Initial Capital.
Luckily, we live in the era where focused work and a good strategy can get you anywhere, without investing even a dollar.
Start validating your idea today, see if there are others doing the same and making money from it, start creating content, building a website and your online presence on social media. That’s where it all starts. You need to build a name for yourself and let people find your website and thus know more about you and your business. You can be doing this for weeks or months before you start making any money, but that’s alright, as it will pay off in the long-run.
4. You Don’t Know Anything About Running a Business.
You don’t need to. In order to decide to start a business and stay consistent with it, you need to become a lifelong learner too.So the moment you care about your work that much that you want your customers to be happy, your time to be well-spent, and your words to be heard, it will be a no-brainer to learn what it takes to manage money, how to pay taxes, delegate some of the work to experts, track your progress, work with influencers in your niche, do administrative tasks, and so on.
Once you start, it all falls into place.
5. You Think You Might Fail and Disappoint Others in Your Life.
That’s a ridiculous reason, but what other people think of our dreams and goals plays a big role in this. Most often, we are judged, might be talked out of our decision to start a business, or receive no support. So we never give it a try.
But just think about it. Do your loved ones want you to keep living this life you aren’t satisfied with? Won’t it help them too if you build something on your own, start making a living from it and even scale it in the future?
It’s a win-win situation. You just need to get over your own insecurities and ignore other people’s opinion for a while, until you take the business off the ground, at least.
Now that you know these, there’s little left to worry about. Start researching, find your online business idea, and plan the first few steps.
You hold the power to transform your life!
