Did you know that it wasn’t until ancient Egyptian times that the word for blue was created?
Are you wondering why this matters to you?
Because it shows how limited our perceptions are. Unless we have a word for something, we can’t see it. It’s not part of our awareness. And the way we think and talk about our possibilities becomes limited, too.
And that plays a big role in how successful we feel when we’re starting our own business.
Consider this: Ancient cultures had to create words for what they saw. As this video shows, black and white expressed light and dark. Then red, green and yellow were named and recognized. Blue was one of the last words to appear, after the Egyptians created a unique shade of dye. They created something new and then named it.
We can do the same!
In today’s world, you might think there’s nothing new left to name. But people create new words every year to describe some new cultural behavior or idea. Sometimes these words become part of our vocabulary—think “tweet” or “Tesla.” They have redefined communication and cars and given us new ways of thinking about them.
The same is true in technology. We can look to science fiction for new possibilities in cell phones or touch pad technology.
Entrepreneurs consistently create new ideas, methods, and services that we’ve never named or “seen” before. Remember how strange it seemed when Apple announced the name of the IPad? But now it’s a device many of us use daily.
How Language Keeps Us Stuck
Do you want to start your own business but don’t believe it’s possible? You haven’t figured out how to do it. You’re skeptical. It doesn’t make sense.
Meanwhile, you might describe yourself as stuck in a job you hate or feel unappreciated in. There’s plenty of limiting beliefs we say that keep us from moving forward.
But what would happen if we used a different language that created new possibilities? How would this new awareness help us create and expand our own business?
Start by changing the way you think and speak about what you want to create:
- Look around you and investigate what others are doing. What can you learn from them? How can you make it unique to your interests and personality?
- What untapped income can you create? With technological advances and ever-growing streams of unique revenue, there’s potential for new types of marketing and services. What steps can you take to start working from home?
- Think about the work you’d like to do. Can you “see” it in your mind’s eye? Play with that image and set your imagination loose. New ideas will pop up. How will you begin acting on these ideas?
- Create a list of words that define your home based business. Think freedom, flexibility, and financial prosperity, but also add words that reflect your needs, situation, and life purpose. Begin using these words every day in your thoughts and conversations.
These actions will change your perspective. You’ll “see” a new way of living. And then you’ll start living it, too!
You hold the power to transform your life!
