In the previous post we covered why routines are important home business tips and how creating a morning ritual can help us have a productive day and accomplish our goals faster in the long-term. If you haven’t read it you can click here to go back an read it.
But after the long day is over, what are the best practices and things you can to do to end it right? How can we finish it just as good and even prepare mentally for the next one?
That’s when an evening ritual comes in handy. It’s a set of activities, done in the evening, that will be your wind-down period (unlike in the morning, when what you do needs to be more energetic). It’s an effective way to leave anything that happened during the day behind (and thus reduce stress), to make the most of your evening, have a good night’s sleep, and – ultimately – wake up in a great mood and full of energy. So here’s how to do it:
Set Yourself Up for A Revitalising Night’s Sleep with A Powerful Evening Routine
1. Stop Doing These Things Prior To Bed.
First of all, it’s important to know what you shouldn’t do, as these are usually the bad habits that prevent you from falling asleep fast when in bed and basically ruin your whole evening.
Don’t eat or drink an hour or two before bed. Leave anything too emotional for tomorrow, be it conversations with loved ones, action movies that will keep your brain activated all night, even using electronic devices can be bad for you as the light and noise coming from the devices can result in you not getting a good night’s sleep. Leave the workout for the next day too.
2. Assess Your Day.
A great way to track your progress but to also let go of those unwanted worries and regrets, is to journal your thoughts in the evening and try to see how your day went.
Did you get done all the tasks on your to-do list? Could you have performed better? Were some of them unnecessary? What can you do to be more effective tomorrow? What was the one thing you did today that made you see progress? What was the least productive activity in your day? How can you eliminate it?
Answer questions like that every night and you’ll notice recurring themes. Some of the things you do during the day don’t get you far, while others are super effective but you don’t dedicate enough time to them.
Write that all down, analyze the answers over time, and make the necessary changes.
What’s more, the process of writing helps you get all this out of your head and into your journal. That’s liberating.
3. Do Relaxing Activities.
It’s important to show your mind and body it’s time to go to sleep soon so that they can calm down.
So do anything that relaxes you. Listen to soft music, stretch, meditate, read a book (by the way, that’s one of the most natural ways to get yourself to sleep), take a soothing bath, listen to an audiobook, etc.
4.Prepare For Tomorrow.
Start by decluttering. Put everything in its place so that the first thing you see tomorrow in your home business office is an organized place, instead of chaos.
Wash the dishes, prepare your clothes (this will save you time too), cook your food for the next day, write your to-do list.
While doing all this, you’ll also be realizing the day is over and will be looking forward to going to your comfortable bed after doing these last tasks.Go to sleep happy and peaceful.
When in bed, put the alarm clock in the other corner of the room. Do it for 2 reasons: first, so that you’ll need to go get it in the morning and thus wake up with the first alarm; second, so that there are no devices near you while you sleep.
Then, practice muscle relaxation. Breathe deeply and try to relax your muscles one by one. That’s like a meditative state and lets you get to sleep faster. To increase the benefit, visualize a peaceful place, calm down your mind, put a light smile on your face, and think of positive thoughts.
All this will guarantee you have a great night’s sleep.
So, what will you do tonight to make sure you have a successful tomorrow?
