Corporations are instituting wellness programs throughout the country. Why? They know that healthy workers are happier and more productive. The same goes for entrepreneurs. Building a home-based business is tough. Having health problems on top of the normal stress of creating a business just makes it that much harder.
Now, we’re not saying you need to be in perfect shape. But you do need to maintain your body so your mind will be sharp. If you can master your body, you can master your home business. Master your side gig and you can tell your old job goodbye and be your own boss!
Here are seven things you should add to your routine to improve your health:
You don’t need to slog, nor have some insane goal. Just do whatever movement you can for at least 30 minutes a day, even if it’s just walking around outside. Exercise will give you a much-needed break and will give your mind space to work on your business problems.
Meditation is exercise for your mind. Just 10 minutes a day of regular practice is all you need to start. There are a slew of benefits linked to a regular meditation practice that can help your business flourish by improving your mental health. Check out the app Headspace for a gentle introduction to this ancient art.
Most people drink too little water and it shows up as slow thinking and grungy feelings inside. We often forget what it feels like to feel hydrated. Get a big cup with a straw and start sipping throughout the day. You’ll find you’ll drink more water than you realize. We’re so used to guzzling soda through straws that this makes a great trick to drink more water!
In college you may have said, “Sleep is for the weak and sickly”. But a lack of proper sleep will put you in the weak and sickly category. Your body and brain both need regular deep sleep for proper functioning. Start getting at least 7.5 hours and try to go to sleep before midnight. Sleeping before midnight allows your circadian rhythm to sync up better with natural light cycles.
You should also take time for active relaxation. You already know how much you look forward to your breaks at work. Give yourself the same space in your own business. It’s okay, you’re the boss!
Starting a business is daunting. Keeping a positive mindset is necessary to get your business far enough to become profitable. There are many business books that talk about the proper mindset that an entrepreneur needs to succeed. Here is an example list from Entrepreneur.com. But there are many more, which leads to…
There is always something new to learn about business, your industry, and yourself. When you stop learning, you stop growing. Stop growing and your business will suffer. Set aside time to read books. You never know when you’ll stumble across that key idea that will transform your business.
If you can do these things, I have no doubt that you’ll have the health, confidence, and mental strength to walk away from your current job and start your own home-based business.
You hold the power to transform your life!
